Manual Mode

Bracketing

Reflection

I had a really hard time this week. I ran into multiple setbacks and problems that challenged my ability to produce the number of images required to fulfil the assignment. My first problem was that my battery died when I was out taking photos. In that moment, and many others during the ride home... I felt like there were a thousand different things I wanted to photograph. The next problem I ran into was my exposure compensation didn't seem to be working correctly. Regardless of the direction I went, up or down, every image looked the same when attempting to bracket my shots. I tried switching to program mode and adjusting my exposure compensation there instead and sure enough, it worked. I'm not sure why I'm producing the same images in manual when adjusting the exposure compensation. Anyhow, I chose to bracket my shots using full stops by adjusting the aperture or shutter speed. The third and final problem that occurred was this afternoon when I decided to take a trip to Harkness Memorial State Park in order to finish up my assignment. When I arrived back home after taking over a hundred shots, every image I had was over exposed. I dialed in the "perfect exposure" with each and every shot I took while shooting in 100 iso and simply adjusting my shutter or aperture depending on the situation and my desired outcome. I was able to doctor a few images in PhotoShop, but the majority of them were so highly exposed they were useless. All in all, I felt like this weeks images were among the worst I have produced thus far. I hope to be able to avoid any issues like I had this week in the future. In addition, despite the obstacles, I still enjoyed the adventures I had in capturing my images.

Two Best Photos

The two images above are the one's I chose for my best two photos this week. The Horse Chestnut was just very unique to me. Although I feel it is a bit over-exposed, the prickly textured, sphere shaped ball just really catches my eye. The other image is an old, broken down Cadillac I spotted on the side of the road. When I look at this image it makes me wonder where it's been, who the person was that  drove it and the memories they may have had in it.

Two Not-So-Good Photos

I had a lot of bad images this week, but the two images above were probably the most disappointing because they were such beautiful landscapes in person. These images were among the hundred plus photos that came back over-exposed. When I took these images the clouds were very noticeable, but as you can see, they are non-existent in either photograph. It was very frustrating to see so many potential amazing photos turn out the way they did. I could have certainly produced a top 50 not-so-good photos with this weeks assignment.
