Cityscapes & Architecture

Reflection
The last two weeks have been a little bit of a struggle for me as I have had numerous assignments due across all four of my courses. To add to that, it rained most of the week which hindered my ability to get out and take shots like I truly wanted. I feel like I'm still playing catch-up this week with the night photography assignment due in a couple of days. I had initially planned on traveling to Boston or New York to capture some true cityscapes in a major metropolitan area, but because of time constraints and other assignments I had to settle with Mystic and New London. I feel I spent a lot more time editing this week and just trying to pull something exciting out of multiple lackluster photos. Ultimately, I got a few good images to round off this weeks assignment, I was taught a valuable lesson in time management in regards to the weather, and I enjoyed spending time manipulating images and exploring new and unique techniques within Photoshop.
Two Best Photos

I really like these two images above. The first image I chose as one of my favorites was taken in Mystic on the drawbridge. There was so much traffic that I struggled getting the shots on the bridge I truly desired. When I was exiting the bridge I noticed the mirror on the bridge and thought it would make for an interesting photo. I remember seeing a photo like this from class I believe but I'm not sure if it was from the same location or not. I initially flipped the image so that Mystic read true. Yet, I felt like it took something away from the photo and made the reflection in the mirror look unnatural. So in the end, I decided to stick with the original image with a slight boost in contrast and color saturation. The second image I chose was of a church in downtown New London. With Halloween so close, it only felt right to give at least one of my photos a spooky feel to it.
Two Not-So-Good Photos

These are the two images I chose for my worst photos this week. I chose the first image of the bridge because it just felt too busy with no true compositional elements to make it more interesting. There is nothing that just pops out at me. I tried editing the photo in black and white, as well as enhancing the colors and vibrancy in an attempt to pull some hidden treasure out of the photo but it just wasn't there for me. The second photo of the building in Mystic just felt like it had no true subject. I was more so focusing on the architecture of the building but that didn't really translate into the photo like I had expected it to.
