Still Life

Reflection
I truly enjoyed taking photos this week. Still life black and whites are probably my favorite type of photography to produce. As I have said many times, I enjoy the editing process more than I do taking the photos, I feel like I'm creating a piece of art as I drop an image into photoshop and try finding the editing process that best suits the image I'm working on. I don't recall running into any issues this week outside of my battery dying a couple times as I transitioned from room to room taking photos and working with them in Photoshop. It was a bit annoying having to remove the memory card, transition to the PC and then back to the camera again but I understand that is something that can be addressed with a tethering cable. All-in-all, I enjoyed this assignment and I feel like I learned a lot about lighting and setting in order to compose a good still life image.
Two Best Photos

The first photo I chose was inspired by a still life image I saw online of music notes reflecting off the bottom of spoons done by Laurens Kaldeway. I wanted to recreate the image style but in my own way using fall colors. The foreground and backdrop are simply created using scrapbooking paper. I thought the effect was interesting. The photo of the wine and cheese just has this distinguished feel to it and I suppose that is why my eyes are so attracted to the feel the images gives off. I noticed the cheese and cutting board are reflected in the glass as well, and that just made it that much more interesting for me.
Two Not-So-Good Photos

I chose these two images because I just couldn't get the lighting the way I intended it to look. I feel I could have doctrined these up quite a bit in Photoshop and ended up with some decent images. But, because I took so many photos this week, there was no sense in having to do that instead of just choosing a picture that was in a better place from the very start.
